Senior Data Analyst

Formed in 1997, the Travel Industry Council of Ontario (TICO) regulates Ontario’s travel agencies, booking websites, and tour operators. TICO administers the Travel Industry Act, 2002 on behalf of the Ontario government.
As a consumer protection organization, TICO facilitates a consumer complaints process and administers the Ontario Travel Industry Compensation Fund. By booking travel with a TICO registered company, consumers have access to added protection.

This is a full-time position. TICO offers a hybrid working environment. The current expectation would be for the successful candidate to work onsite at TICO’s office in Mississauga 1 or 2 days per week and offsite from home for the remainder of the week. TICO’s typical working hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., though this role is flexible.
Job purpose
We are seeking a talented individual to join our team in the role of a Senior Data Analyst with expertise in process mapping. As part of this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing data pipelines, analyzing, and interpreting data, and mapping business processes to drive organizational efficiency and performance. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of data engineering, analytics, and business process optimization.
The primary purpose of this position is to design, construct, maintain, and optimize the data pipelines and infrastructure necessary for data generation, storage, and processing. The position will be responsible for building and maintaining the architecture that allows for the ingestion, transformation, and secure storage of large volumes of data in various formats. Also, interpreting data to uncover insights and trends that can guide business decisions.
Key Competencies and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be energetic, innovative, hard-working, and highly knowledgeable in Office 365 and other office applications such as Adobe Pro.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
• Proven experience (5 years) working as a Data Engineer, Data Analyst, or in a similar role.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
• Strong understanding of data architecture, database management, and data modeling principles.
• Experience with data analysis tools and techniques, including SQL, Python, R, or MATLAB.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Google Data Studio.
• Knowledge of process mapping methodologies such as BPMN or Six Sigma.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically with great attention to detail.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Duties and responsibilities
The main responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to:
Data Engineering:
• Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines for extracting, transforming, and loading (ETL) data from various sources into data lakes or warehouses.
• Design and maintain data models that are optimized for performance, scalability, and flexibility.
• Ensure data quality, integrity, and security throughout the pipeline by implementing validation and error-handling mechanisms.
Data Analysis and Visualization:
• Collect, analyze, and interpret data from multiple sources to extract insights and provide actionable recommendations to stakeholders.
• Perform exploratory data analysis to identify trends, patterns, and relationships in the data.
• Develop reports, dashboards, and visualizations using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Google Data Studio to communicate findings effectively.
• Translate data findings into actionable insights to support decision-making and business strategy.
• Collect and organize data from internal and external sources, including databases, spreadsheets, APIs, and other data repositories.
• Clean and preprocess data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency, resolving any discrepancies or errors in the data.
Data Interpretation and Insights:
• Translate data findings into actionable insights and recommendations to support decision-making and business strategy.
• Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders through written reports, presentations, or data storytelling sessions.
• Continuously monitor and analyze data trends to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.
Reporting, Dashboarding and Quality Assurance:
• Develop and maintain reports and dashboards to track key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics.
• Automate data reporting processes using tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Google Data Studio.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and customize dashboards to meet their needs.
• Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and reliability by implementing data quality checks and validation procedures.
• Identify and address data quality issues, anomalies, and outliers to maintain data consistency and reliability.
Data Integration and APIs:
• Develop APIs and data integration solutions to facilitate seamless data exchange between different systems and applications.
Security and Compliance:
• Implement security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
• Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures to maintain data privacy, integrity, and confidentiality.
Process Mapping and Optimization:
• Document and map end-to-end business processes, workflows, and procedures within the organization.
• Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement in existing processes.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze process maps, gather requirements, and recommend solutions for process optimization.
• Drive process improvement initiatives by implementing changes, monitoring performance, and measuring outcomes.
Collaboration and Communication:
• Work closely with business stakeholders, and IT teams to understand data requirements and business objectives.
• Communicate technical concepts and findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Collaborate with team members to prioritize tasks, manage workload, and ensure timely delivery of projects.
Training and Documentation:
• Maintain comprehensive documentation of all data design and configurations, customizations, and development processes.
• Create user guides and training materials to support end-users.
• Develop training materials and conduct training sessions for end-users on reports and dashboards.
Preferred Skills:
• Experience with machine learning algorithms and techniques.
• Knowledge of database systems and data warehousing concepts.
• Certification in relevant technologies or methodologies (e.g., Tableau Desktop Specialist, Google Analytics Individual Qualification
Working conditions
While the physical demands of the role are minimal for an office environment, the employee must be able to demonstrate and/or accept the following:
• Sitting for extended periods.
• Considerable amount of time spent at the computer.
